The Rev. Robert Hannemann officiated at the services. Leona Holub of Monticello died Sunday, June 28, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids following a brief illness. Leona Behrends was born February 26, 1915 at Peosta, he daughter of Wilke and Dora Schatz Behrends. She received her early education in Castle Grove rural schools. She graduated in 1932 from Monticello High School and then attended Lenox College, Hopkinton. She taught in the rural schools of Castle Grove for two years. Leona Behrends and Arthur Holub were married December 29o, 1936 at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Monticello. The couple farmed south of Anamosa for a year, moved to Castle Grove Township where they farmed until 1968 when they moved to Monticello. She was a lifelong member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Marilyn Gray and Colleen Rehor, and a son Lyle, all of Monticello; 10 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Paul Behrends of Monticello. Casket bearers were Tim Holub, Duane Eden, Gary Gadient, Jim Gadient, Kevin Behrends, and Steve Supple. Goettsch Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
