Van Voorhis McKibben was born on Monday; December 16, 1907 in southwest Grunday County; Felix Township, Iowa. She was the daughter of: Guy and Lepha (Bauman) Van Voorhis. She attended the country school near her home, then graduated from Liscomb High School in 1925. After attending college at Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls, she married her high school sweetheart, Voss McKibben, in 1927. They farmed for 43 years in the Liscomb area before moving to Liscomb. For the past two years, she has resided at the Southridge Nursing and Rehab Center in Marshalltown. She was a member of the Grace Reformed Church, before she joined her husband in the Liscomb Church of Christ. She was a Sunday School Teacher for 77 years and had perfect attendance for 65 years. She was active in organizations of the church including deaconess, church choir, Ladies Aid, and the Vacation Bible School. Wilma was past president of the Liscomb Township Farm Bureau Women. She enjoyed her work as leader of the Liscomb Jolly Janes 4-H club and served on the Marshall County 4-H Committee for 14 years. In 1972, the Marshalltown Area Chamber of Commerce honored Voss and Wilma for their outstanding and unselfish service to the community of Liscomb. She was the eldest member of the Liscomb High School Alumni Association, attending her 80th Class Reunion during the Liscomb Alumni Banquet in June. Currently, she was president of the resident's council at Southridge where she loved the staff and residents. Wilma M. Van Voorhis McKibben, age 97, longtime Liscomb; Marshall County, Iowa resident, most recently of the Southridge Nursing and Rehab Center in Marshalltown; Marshall County, Iowa passed away on Saturday morning; September 17, 2005 at the Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center. Her death came peacefully at 9:30 a.m. with family at her side. Those left to mourn her passing are: Her son Van (Barbara) McKibben of Albion; Marshall County, Iowa. Her daughter: Esther (Norval) Mosher of Liscomb, Iowa. Her grandchildren: Lynn (Kay) McKibben of Manito; Mason County, Illinois. Gary (Diane) McKibben of Altoona; Polk County, Iowa. Dynette Mosher of Ames; Story County, Iowa and Jim (Brenda) Mosher of Conrad; Grundy County, Iowa. Her great-grandchildren: Michelle, Tyler and Matthew McKibben and Lauren and Leah Mosher as well as nieces, nephews and a host of friends. In death she has rejoined her parents, her husband: Voss who died in 1984 and two sisters: Mary Bockes and Maude Adams. May they rest in peace. Visitation will be from: 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday; September 20, 2005 at the funeral home. Funeral services will begin at: 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday; September 21, 2005 at the Liscomb Church of Christ with Reverend Helmer Petersen officiating. Interment will be at the Liscomb Cemetery in Liscomb, Iowa. A memorial fund in Wilma's name is being established.
