Wilma was born June 17, 1933 in Hartington, NE to Frank and Marie(Walz)Wuestewald. Wilma married Merlin H. Recker on January 9, 1957 in West Point, NE. The couple moved to Fremont in 1959. Wilma ran an in-home daycare for more than 30 years, and was "Grandma Wilma" to over 100 kids. Wilma was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fremont, the Catholic Daughters, and a founding member of Bunco Buddies. She was a long time supporter of Bergan activities, especially sports. She attended her children's and grandchildren's events, including sports, music and drama, etc. Merlin and Wilma loved to travel and enjoyed their many trips with Moostach Joe Tours. Camping was a big part of family activities. She was a very talented seamstress. She sewed children's clothes, toys, Christmas presents, doll clothes and formal and wedding dresses. She enjoyed playing cards and gardening, but spending time with her family was most important to her. She is survived by children, Judy(Kirk)Brooks of Fremont, Jane(Tom)Steinbach of Lincoln, NE, Joe(Sherri)Recker of Lincoln, Joan(Bryan)Clark of Papillion and Jenifer(Ron)Sorensen of Blair, NE; 14 grandchildren, Amanda(Jake)Hansen, Mikala(Wally)Thompson, Kelvin(Alex)Brooks, John and Bill Steinbach, Zach and Luke Recker, Michelle, Aaron and Juliet Clark, Kaylee, Jacob, Megan and Hans Sorensen; and 6 great grandchildren, Lily and Emma Hansen, Beckett and Mareck Thompson and Elise and Scarlett Brooks; sisters, Cecilia Franzluebbers of Beemer, NE and Theresa(Vincent)Spenner of Dodge, NE; sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Wuestewald, Yvonne(Jerry)Peatrowsky, Sharon Buck and Merna Recker, all of West Point, NE, and Gwen Wuestewald of Fremont; and brother-in-law, Dale(Charlene)Recker of Glenwood, IA. Wilma joined her loving husband of 59 years, Merlin, who passed away 34 days prior to Wilma's passing. She was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Paul, John, August and Ed; and sister, Betty Recker; 3 sisters-in-law and 5 brothers-in-law. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 AM, Thursday, May 19, 2016 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fremont. The Rev. Father Ron Battiato will officiate. A Catholic Daughters Rosary will be 7 PM, Wednesday, at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Closed casket visitation on Wednesday from 5 PM to 7 PM. Burial at Calvary Cemetery in Fremont. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Fremont Area Alzheimer's Fund.
