Wilma died Saturday, May 3, 2014, at the Heritage of Bel Air in Norfolk. Wilma Marie (Smith) Brown, daughter of Fred E. and Chloe (Butterfield) Smith, was born June 15, 1920, at Venus, Nebraska. She attended country schools in Knox and Antelope Counties in Nebraska, and attended high school at Creighton, Nebraska. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and other housework while growing up on the farm and throughout her life. She married Stanley Brown on May 14, 1941, at Creighton. During her early adult life, her employment included clerical work for the Federal Housing Authority at Neligh, Nebraska, and work as a caregiver in various homes. Over a period of 27 years, she provided daycare in her own home for a total of 83 children; and she hardly ever missed a game or activities in which her own children participated. In later years she belonged to the Senior Citizens group at Westwood Homes in Tilden and enjoyed playing cards, and bingo. She was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church in Tilden, and enjoyed going to bible study and providing volunteer service to the church. The love of her life was her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley; one son, Roger of Bartley, Nebraska; her parents, Fred and Chloe Smith of Tilden; three brothers, Ivan of Neligh, Earl of Kearney, and Ralph "Bud" of Columbus; and one son-in-law Norman "Joe" Binder of Brownsville, Texas. Survivors include one sister, Iryle McGraw of Floresville, Texas; one daughter, Arlene Binder of Brownsville, Texas; three sons, Floyd (Judy) Brown of Lyons, Nebraska, Lloyd (Linda) Brown of Hastings, Nebraska, and Jim (Cheryl) Brown of Lincoln, Nebraska; six grandchlildren; and twelve great-grandchildren. Memorials are suggested to the Faith United Methodist Church of Tilden, the American Heart Association, or the Cancer Fund of America.
