After high school, she "went on to college, career and [raised a] family". Her son, John, and daughter Bette (Bob) were raised in Grand Junction, CO. Wilna worked as (a caseworker) for Larimer County for many years and helped at the employment office. Willie and her husband retired to Mesa, Arizona where they lived the remainder of their years and where Willie enjoyed activities like golf, crafts, lessons like dancing the 'Tango'. (She said she had to give up on 'line' and square dancing.) She was an active member of Daughters of the American Revolution, the fraternal Order of Eastern Star, her (Velda Rose United Methodist) Church, and her sorority. Willie and her husand retired to Mesa Arizona where they lived the remainder of their years. To celebrate her 88th birthday, Willie baked rolls and gave them out to everyone in their mobile home park. The party was one of the highlights of Wilna's life. A friend there asked Willie if she was born on Thanksgiving. She said she did not remember[that far back]. Willie was proud that her driver's license was good until 2004. She was reminded by the "sunshine" lady at her 88th birthday party that she was stopped by a police officer and she asked, "Whats wrong officer? I was only going 22 mph." The police man said, "That was the last number. By the way, your friends [in the car] look so little pale, are they sick?" One spoke up, "She was going 75 mph, and we were scared!" They all got a chuckle out of that one. Willie asked the gals at the party if they would ride with her when she was 92. They replied that they would "Only if you will drive in the park and not at night." She did go on and lead her little party for another 8 years. She is missed by many friends and loving family. It is said, 'There are three kinds of people: Those who make things happen, those who watch things happen, and those who ask, What happened?" [from Willie in her Christmas letter of 2000] Willie was one of those who made things happen. -------------------- Wilna Hall Treichler, CSU extension agent, educator, and registered social worker, has died. She was 96. Wilna Ethel Hall was born in Olathe, Colorado in 1911 to John H. (Hipe) and Effie (McIntire) Hall. Following her graduation from Colorado State University in 1935, she became Mesa County's first home agent for Howard Fitch, County Agent and was involved in 4-H, women's clubs, camps and fairs. Wilna was also the secretary for the Mesa County CSU Alumni Association. She met and married her husband C. Eugene (Gene) Treichler in Grand Junction Colorado in 1938. Following the end of WW II, Wilna and her husband Gene opened and operated their "Farmer's Mart" grocery store at the corner of North Avenue and 29 Road in Grand Junction. After Wilna and Gene closed their business in 1956, Wilna taught vocational home economics at Grand Junction High School where she was the co-sponsor of the Junior class and the Future Homemakers of America (FHA) organization for six years before moving to Fort Collins, Colorado with her family. Wilna taught Home Economics at the Fort Collins High School before retiring from teaching in 1968. Wilna took a position as a registered social worker with the Larimer County WIN social services program serving until 1981. Wilna and her husband Gene retired to Mesa, Arizona where Gene died in 1992. Wilna was a member of the Velda Rose Methodist Church where she was often a greeter and participated in the "Circle" and "Charlie's Angles". Wilna continued her public service work in Mesa, Arizona through the Delta Zeta Master Chapter serving as President 1997-98 and receiving the Woman of the Year award in 1998. She was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) organization from 1936. With her sister Edna (Hall) Miller of Grand Junction providing the genealogy, Wilna and Edna co-authored a book describing their Father's (John H. Hall) life history entitled "It's Been a honey - Old Dad Reminisces". Two copies currently reside in the historical section of the Fort Collins public library, and one copy in the Mesa County public library in Grand Junction, Colorado. Wilna is survived by her sister Edna Hall Miller of Grand Junction, Colorado; her son John R. Treichler of Banning, California; her daughter Bette Treichler Essig of Burwell, Nebraska, grandson Leon Essig of Omaha, Nebraska; granddaughter Dawn Essig Sweeze of Las Vegas, Nevada; and great grandchildren Mary, Ryne, and Christopher. .
