Description	:	Winfield Scott Blackford was born November 11, 1861, in York county, Pennsylvania, and died at his home in Bonaparte, Iowa, May 8, 1935, at the age of 73 years, 5 months and 27 days. He was born in the same county and within a few miles of the very spot where his great-great-grandfather, Martin Blackford settled in 1751, emigrating from Scotland. Read More	Winfield Scott Blackford was born November 11, 1861, in York county, Pennsylvania, and died at his home in Bonaparte, Iowa, May 8, 1935, at the age of 73 years, 5 months and 27 days. He was born in the same county and within a few miles of the very spot where his great-great-grandfather, Martin Blackford settled in 1751, emigrating from Scotland. Scott was the first born of a family of twelve children, 7 boys and five girls, nine of whom are still living, seven being present at the obsequies. He was the son of John William and Nancy Atland Blackford, who came to Iowa in 1864, and settled on a farm in Harrisburg township, Van Buren county, where he grew to manhood. He got his education in the country schools and in the graded school of Bonaparte. He engaged in the implement business in 1888 in Hillsboro, Iowa, and in 1890 came to Bonaparte and entered the hardware and implement business which he continued for some 45 years, up to the time of his death. He was an enthusiastic and hard working businessman, and a charter member of both the Iowa State Hardware Dealers' association and the Iowa State Implement Dealers association, and each year attended the annual meetings of these organizations. He was recognized by the trade as an authority in his line of business. He was married in 1899 to Xantippe Stuttsman, and to this union one child was born, a daughter, Chaminade, who survives him. He is also survived by his aged mother Nancy Blackford of Hillsboro, Iowa, and by five brothers and four sisters as follows: Mrs. Effie Smith of West Branch; Raymond, Oskaloosa; Mrs. Mattie Logan, Mt. Pleasant; Mrs. Rose Tulley of Monte Vista, Colorado; Aaron of Bonaparte; George of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; William of Oskaloosa; Philip of Hillsboro, and Mrs. June Karney, of Williamsport, Penn. He was a member of the Presbyterian church, also of Bonaparte Lodge N. 73, A.F.& A.M., of El Chanan Commandery No. 28 Knights of Templar, and a noble of Kaaba Temple, the order of the Mystic Shrine. He was always interested in civic affairs and tried to do his part in the upbuilding of his local community. Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church in Bonaparte Friday, May 10, the Rev. Samp officiating. Interment was in the Vale cemetery. Source: Van Buren Co.
