Description	:	Winifred Waters Anderson Harris, 89, of Burlington, died at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, as the result of a head injury suffered in a fall at her home. Born May 19, 1920, in rural New London, she was the daughter of Fred and Elizabeth Prickett Waters. On Sept. 29, 1940, she married Dale W. Anderson in Mount Pleasant. He died Feb. 13, 1960. On Nov. 28, 1963, she married Frederic G. Harris in Galesburg, Ill. Mrs. Harris was a field representative for the American Cancer Society for Southeast Iowa. She later served as the county community action coordinator for Clay County in Iowa, was a tax preparer in Jacksonville, Ill., executive director of the American Red Cross in Ford County, Ill., and a bank teller in Melvin, Ill. She had been involved with all aspects of the Anderson family farm near Stockport. In 1960, she became the first female seed corn dealer for Pioneer Hybrid Seed Co. She was a 1938 graduate of New London High School. She was a musician, studying the piano early, playing in Sunday school at the age of 11 and for church services when she was 18. Throughout her life, she played for many weddings and funerals. Following the deaths of her parents, she organized the Waters family reunion, an annual gathering held all over the United States for nearly 30 years. She was an eye donor to the Iowa Lions Eyebank. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Burlington, a Muscatine district officer of United Methodist Women while in Morning Sun; she was a past worthy matron and 50-year member of Stockport Order of the Eastern Star and an associate member of Burlington Chapter, a former member of White Shrine of Jerusalem in Fairfield, the John See Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution and the Stockport Rebekah Lodge. She enjoyed playing the piano, sewing and quilting, and maintaining the history and records of the Waters family. Survivors include her husband; two sons; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister; nieces and nephews. Besides her first husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one grandson, seven brothers and one sister. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today in Lunning Chapel. The family will receive friends following a brief Order of the Eastern Star Service at 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. The funeral for Mrs. Harris will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, followed by lunch, at Grace United Methodist Church in Burlington with the Revs. Trevor Davis and Mike Orthel officiating. Burial and committal service will be at 3 p.m. in Forest Home Cemetery, Mount Pleasant. A memorial has been established for the Winifred A. Harris Piano Education Foundation.
