She has attained the age of 92 years, death being due to senility. Mrs. Crowe was in many ways remarkable. She bore up wonderfully well through the burden of age. Her eyesight, even during the last few days of her life, was as keen as that of a young person. She had never wore spectacles and could read or thread a needle as easily as her grandchildren. Another remarkable feature was that her sense of hearing was not at the least defective. Her children noticed that her heath during the last two weeks was declining. Monday was the first day in many years that she spent on the sick bed. Yesterday she slept to death. Her children attribute her old age to careful living. She is said to have eaten with regularity and worked every day of her life. Mrs. Crowe was born in Tipperary, Ireland, on March 15, 1823. She came to the United States when she was 23 years old settling with her husband on a farm near Dubuque, Iowa. Her husband Andrew Crowe, died about fifty years ago. In 1873 she came to Sioux City with her daughter, Mrs. O’Brien. They have lived at 610 Wall Street ever since. Mrs. Crowe, during her early days in Sioux City, devoted much of her time in working for her neighbors. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. She is survived by three children, twenty three grandchildren and twenty-six great grandchildren. The children are Mrs. Michael O’Brien and Mrs. Anna O’Neill, of Sioux City and John Crowe, of Emerson Nebraska. Sioux City Journal, April 28, 1915
