Read More	Winifred "Winnie" (Schwarz) Jones was born in Iowa, married a farmer, and lived close to the land all her life. Family was important to her. As a teenager she lived with extended family, and as an adult, she welcomed an aging relative into her home. The 1910 US Census shows her and her family farming in Jackson Township, Harrison Co., Iowa. The household consisted of: Frederick D. Jones (28) head, farmer Winifred Jones (24) wife Lewis E. Tolle (77) uncle-in-law In those days, when people grew elderly, they lived with their family. If the family was unable to take them in, then the elderly were taken care of by a county for a time, until the county sent them to another county to live. The same was true with children. In 1900, when Winifred was 14, she lived in her Uncle Lewis Tolle's home--and so did her widowed 94-year old grandfather, HH Tolle. Now, Winifred was married, and she and her husband Frederick took in Lewis. Today, Frederick and his wife, Winifred, are buried in Soldier Valley, Iowa, Harrison County. Lewis Tolle is buried in the same plot. A family plot. The large stone says Tolle, and has no other inscription on it. Behind it are 3 smaller stones, L-R: Winifred Jones (1886-1965) wife of Frederick and niece of Lewis E. Frederick Jones Lewis E. Tolle, born Kentucky, Union soldier in the Civil War, Iowa, Co. F, Infantry, mustered out Dec. 16, 1865 in Mobile, Alabama. In 1900, Winnie Schwarz was living as a niece on HH Tolle's farm Jackson Twp, Harrison Co.
