Winnifred Robinson was born Feb. 23, 1905, in Lock Springs, Mo. Read More	Fremont Tribune; January 20, 2003 Winnie McManigal, 97, of Pilger died Friday, Jan. 17, 2003, at Colonial Haven Nursing Home in Beemer. Winnifred Robinson was born Feb. 23, 1905, in Lock Springs, Mo. The family moved to a farm south of Pilger where she attended Stanton Country Rural School and later graduated from Pilger High School in 1924. After high school, she worked as a bookkeeper for the Ford Automobile agency in Pilger. She married Ervin E. McManigal on Oct. 17, 1928, in Pilger. They resided in Pilger. Her spouse preceded her in death in March 1944. After her husband's death, she became a State Farm insurance agent for 27 years. She also had been a news correspondent for the Pilger Herald and Stanton Register. She had resided in the same home in Pilger since 1931, until entering the Colonial Haven Nursing Home in May 1995. She was a member of United Methodist Church in Pilger and previously had been a member of the Pilger Baptist Church before its closing. She was active in the Civil Improvement Club in Pilger, the Stanton County Historical Society and Young Matrons Club in Pilger. She had served on the Pilger Library Board, Stanton County and State of Nebraska Bicentennial Committees and had assisted at the polling booths and tabulated elections in Pilger. Survivors include: two sons, Morland "Mac" (and wife, Gloria) McManigal of Fairfield, Calif., and Ronie (and wife, Sheila) McManigal of Lakewood, Calif.; a daughter, Marlene (Mrs. Wayne) Layton of Long Beach, Calif.; a brother, Willis Robinson of Avon Park, Fla.; a sister, Vivian Coley of Fremont; two sisters-in-law, Bess and Leola; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by 10 brothers and sisters. The memorial service was this morning at United Methodist Church in Pilger with the Rev. Scott Evans officiating. Burial of the cremains was in Pilger Cemetery. Kuzelka-Minnick Funeral Home in Pilger was in charge of arrangements.
