Description	:	Woodrow "Bud" Soles passed away on April 3, 2010, at the Winn Bud was born on February 9, 1919, on a farm near Springview, NE, to William and Dottie (McCloughan) Soles. They moved to a small farm in Tripp County, southeast of Millboro, SD. He attended Lost Creek School and then the Millboro High School where he graduated in 1937. On September 10,... Read More	Woodrow "Bud" Soles passed away on April 3, 2010, at the Winn Bud was born on February 9, 1919, on a farm near Springview, NE, to William and Dottie (McCloughan) Soles. They moved to a small farm in Tripp County, southeast of Millboro, SD. He attended Lost Creek School and then the Millboro High School where he graduated in 1937. After high school he enlisted into the Navy serving in the Pacific Islands. He was a life time member in both the American Legion and the VFW and also, a Post Commander in the VFW. On September 10, 1945, he married the love of his life Nellie Mae Mahaffa. In September of 2005 they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. They were happily married for 62 years. To this union they were blessed with three children: Barbara Elaine; Walter Arlie, and Wayne Allan. They lived on a ranch five miles south of Keya Paha, SD, and that is where they raised their family. One of Bud's passions was horses. He raised registered Arabian Horses. Also, he was well known for his registered Black Angus cows and bulls. Some of his hobbies included deer hunting and cat fishing on the Niobrara River. He also enjoyed welding and building things. Bud was always there to help a neighbor in need. Survivors include a daughter, Barbara (Sonny) Sturgill, Sons: Walter (Marlene Burdick); and Wayne (Kasey) Soles, four grandsons, one granddaughter, and one great granddaughter, his brother George Soles of Millboro, SD; and seven sisters: Nellie Warner, Salem, OR; Ines Sharp, Valentine, NE; Helen Michel, Nampa, ID; Ellen Goslin, Emmet, ID; Mary Hayford, Mt. Angel, OR; Pearl Chambers, Colome, SD; Ann Divine, Greenfield, MO; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Nellie, his parents, and four brothers, John, Frank, Harold, and Lewis and one sister Velma, and a daughter Betty who died in infancy. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 8, 2010, at the First Christian Church in Winner, SD. Burial will be in the Norden Cemetery, Norden, NE. Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 7, from 4-8 p.m. at Mason Funeral Home in Winner, SD.
