Read More	Woodrow Wilson Roggow, son of Fred E. and Nathalia (Deering) Roggow, was born January 29, 1913, east of Burke, South Dakota and he died March 1, 2007 at the Gregory Community Hospital in Gregory, South Dakota at the age of 94 years, 1 month and 2 days. Woodrow attended the Lucas Baptist Church. He lived his entire life in the Lucas area. He attended Sunnyside School through the eighth grade. In his younger years, Woodrow shocked grain near Gayville, South Dakota and worked for JW Smith of Lucas. During the 'dirty thirties' he worked for the WPA Work Program. He also did custom trucking and gravel hauling. He was a Northup King seed salesman for 20 years. He was especially passionate about farming and enjoyed working outdoors with farm equipment and watching his crops grow. Woodrow, known for his strong work ethic, as well as the importance of integrity and honesty, was elected and worked as Gregory's County Assessor in 1940. he was also one of the charter members who helped organize the Gregory County Soil Conservation District in 1941. He truly believed in being a keeper of the soil. He did much to eliminate all of the gullies on his farm that were caused from the dry thirties. Woody, as he liked to be called, was an avid hunter and trapper who thoroughly enjoyed matching wits with the "wily coyote". He was never without a past hunting experience and loved to share his stories with family and friends, who will surely miss him. Woody was united in marriage to June Ann Anderson at Burke, South Dakota on November 4, 1938. They resided on two different farms, eventually purchasing the home place northeast of Lucas, where he resided until declining health caused him to live at the Sunnyside Home near Lucas. Woodrow was preceded in death by his parents; his wife June on January 29, 1995; six brothers: Sam, Emil, Lawrence, George, Ewald and Robert; one sister, Lorena Mowery and an infant grandson.
