He had been in poor health for a year or two and of late confined to his home. His death had been anticipated for several days before the final summons. He was among the very first to locate in this locality, in Guthrie County, and the last of 15 of his parents’ family to quit this life, a sister dying about three months ago at the age of 87. He and wife, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Wilson, were married 60 years ago last March. They drove in a spring wagon to Carrollton, then the county seat of Carroll County, where the father of C.C. Mulloy, then a justice of the peace, performed the wedding ceremony. They immediately returned home and began married life- no wedding trip as now with most young folks. They were farmers and reared a family of 10 children, all growing up in this community. The deceased was a Mason for more than 50 years and held all offices in Charity Lodge. He was a member of the Blue, the Chapter, Commandery and Shriners. Charity Lodge had charge of the remains. The sermon was preached by Rev. C. W. Hautzenrader of the Christian church at the late home of the deceased. Worth Smith was born July 13, 1846, at Cincinnati, Ohio, and died at his home in Coon Rapids, Iowa, on January 29, 1927, at the age of 80 years, six months and 16 days. Mr. Smith is the last of a family of 15 children. His father was born in 1796 and enlisted in the war of 1812 when only 16 years old. He fought in the battle of Lundy Lane. It will be 52 years this month of Mr. Smith, along with Mr. C. E. Morris, placed their applications in the Masonic order. Since that time they have taken every degree together and their deaths occurred just four hours apart. He came to Iowa in the fall of 1853, locating at Fairfield, Iowa, later in the spring of 1856, moving to Guthrie County. He was married to Sarah Elizabeth Wilson on March 18, 1866 at Old Carrollton. To this union ten, children were born- Charles of Coon Rapids, Mrs. Jennie Buckley of Denison, Iowa, Mrs. Emma Allen of Frazee, Minnesota, Mrs. Emma Davis of Des Moines, Harry of Bayard, Iowa, Jess of Berwyn, Canada, Mrs. Maude Blackburn of Dixon, Illinois, Frank of Long Beach, California, Mrs. Nellie Bennett of Faribault, Minnesota. Another son, Bernard died some years ago. Mrs. Smith passed away on May 23 of last year. Besides the children, there remain three grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren and a host of friends.
