Read More	The Altoona Herald, Altoona, IA May 20. 1920 The death of Worthey Porter which occured on Tuesday of last week was a severe shock to all and cast a shadow of sorrow over the entire community. Few knew of his illness until the news of his death was sent through the community, and his death is all the more sad because of the families double bereavement in the death of the wife and mother and now the son and brother. He was the only son at home and the main stay of the family. The hearts of the entire community are filled with sympathy for the family in their deep sorrow. Worthey Alexandria Porter, son of Will and Martha Porter was born three miles west of Altoona in Delaware township, Polk county, Iowa, on the 23rd day of February, 1885 and died in tho hospital at Colfax, Iowa, where he had gone for an operation, on Tuesday May 11, 1920, aged 32 years 2 months and 18 days. Worthey spent his entire life in the community around Altoona and during this time made hosts of friends with his quiet and kind manner. He was always thoughtful and kind to those about him and truly lived to help the other fellow. In 1917 he accepted the Christ and united with the Christian church at Bondurant, where he has kept his membership and lived the Christ life. On Sunday May 9th, he was taken with appendicitis and on Monday an operation was deemed necessary in an attempt to save his life. He was rushed to the hospital at Colfax and the operation performed on Monday night, he survived the operation until Tuesday evening when the grim reaper came and gathered him home and carried his spirit on to that home over there, to be with his mother who preceded him just eight days. He is survived by his father, three brothers; Irvin, of Des Moines; John, of Altoona; James, of Bondurant; and six sisters: Mrs. Nellie Peterson of Lady Smith, Wisconsin; Mrs. Sylvia Cole, of Churdan, Iowa; Mrs. Nettie Avise of Des Moines, Iowa; and three sisters at home; Prudence, Alma and Hazel. He also leaves an aged grandmother, several uncles, aunts, cousins and other relatives with a score of friends who mourn the loss of a true friend and Christian brother. He was a member of Argonne Tribe 167 Order of Redman, of Bondurant, Iowa, also of Bondurant lodge 243 I. 0 O. F. The funeral was held from the Christian church at Altoona on Friday morning May 14, 1920 conducted by Rev. Mutchler, of Grant Park Christion church, who also conducted the mother's funeral from the same pulpit just nine days before. Following the services at the church Bondurant lodge No. 243 I.O.O.F., took charge of the body and escorted it to the Altoona cemetery, where it was consigned to the grave under the retualistic rites of the order.
