Description	:	Wyman Matthew Steffen, son of Bernard “Ben” Matthew and Margaret Corsini (Murray) Steffen, was born May 8, 1926 in Kingsley, Iowa. He received his education in Spencer, graduating from Spencer High School in 1943. In January, 1944 Wyman was inducted into the Army Air Corp serving his country until May, 1946 when he was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant. He received his education in Spencer, graduating from Spencer High School in 1943. In January, 1944 Wyman was inducted into the Army Air Corp serving his country until May, 1946 when he was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant. On June 7, 1948, Wyman was united in marriage to Mary Kathleen “Kay” White in Riceville, Iowa. He and Kay made their home in Spencer where they raised their son and daughter. Wyman owned and operated Steffen Furniture in Spencer for sixty two years, devoting his life not only to his family but to his business as well. His enthusiasm and love for his work was truly an asset for the success of his business. A highlight for him was having his son involved in the furniture business. Wyman was a true supporter of Spencer, Iowa and was involved in several organizations that helped keep Spencer a viable community. He was an active member of the Chamber of Commerce and the Spencer Mainstreet Organization. He also served on the Spencer Regional Healthcare Foundation, promoting the stability and growth of healthcare in Spencer. Wyman was named Citizen of the Year in 1986 for all of his contributions to the city of Spencer. Throughout his working years, Wyman served on numerous boards and organizations. Wyman was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church for many years. Wyman and Kay lived on the Spencer Country Club golf course where Wyman loved playing golf. He earned his private pilot’s license and enjoyed flying for many years. He served as a trustee of the Spencer Airport. Wyman also enjoyed playing cards, especially Pitch. Wyman and Kay enjoyed several years of wintering in Arizona, where they were able to enjoy their daughter and grandchildren that lived there. During the summer months they had the opportunity to spend time with their grandchildren in Iowa. Even though it was difficult to get Wyman to leave his business, he and Kay enjoyed traveling when they were able to go. Wyman passed away Saturday, February 7, 2015, at Longhouse-Northshire in Spencer, Iowa at the age of 88. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Verlin “Bud” Steffen; and his wife, Mary Kathleen “Kay” on September 11, 2014. He is survived by his children, Timothy Steffen and his wife, Sherri of Spencer, Iowa and Barbara Huntimer of Surprise, Arizona; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren, Molly Juza and her husband, Geoff, and their children, Daniel and Matthew, Kimberly Steffen, Holly Huntimer, Tim Huntimer and his children, Skylar and Evelyn; brothers, Kenny Steffen of Ottumwa, Iowa and Leo Steffen and his wife, Phylllis of Carroll, Iowa; his sister, Dottie McEntee of Spencer, Iowa; foreign exchange student, Enrique “Qui Que” Cámara Díez of Spain; nieces and nephews; as well as many other relatives and friends.
