Son of Lewis Miles Pearson and Elizabeth OBITUARY THE CHARITON LEADER Chariton, Iowa Tuesday, July 1, 1974 PEARSON Young E. Pearson, son of Lewis Miles and Elizabeth Estell Pearson, was born June 5, 1895 in Washington County, Ark., and passed away June 22, 1974 at Collins Memorial Hospital in Knoxville, at the age of 79 years and 17 days. His parents died at an early age, leaving Clifford, 15; Young, 8; and George, 4. His next 15 years were spent in Oklahoma with a family named Seitter, with the exception of one year near Attica, with his grandparents, Dr. and Mrs. Young Pearson. He received his education in Oklahoma and entered the service in 1917 and served in the Army in France during World War I. He was married to Mary Ethel Shults in Pleasant Township on December 3, 1922. To this union were born two children; Virginia and Lewis. His wife preceded him in death in October, 1946. For many years he farmed in Pleasant Township, later being employed by the Lucas County Farm Bureau. He was a longtime member of the Carl L. Caviness American Legion Post No. 102; Lucas County Farm Bureau; and many other civic organizations. He was a longtime member of the Coal Glen Methodist Church, serving in many capacities. On September 26, 1952, he was united in marriage to Clara E. Woodard. Together, they were active in originating the Chariton Pebble Pickers Rock Club and the Lucas County Historical Society. Clara passed away on March 6, 1974. He was also preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: Moses, Clifford and George. He is survived by his two children: Mrs. James (Virginia) Miller of Knoxville; and Lewis Pearson of Chariton; three grandchildren; Mary Lou Bingham and Jon and Bill Miller; three great-grandchildren, all of Knoxville; four step-sons, Charles Woodard of Des Moines; Franklin Woodard of Knoxville; Herman Woodard of Springfield, Mo.; and Donald Woodard of New London; as well as many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Virgil E. Shickell at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 25, at the Fielding Funeral Home. Interment was in the Coal Glen Cemetery.
