| Description | : | Zachariah Norton is the sixth born son of Peter Norton and Sarah Bassett. Zachariah married Hannah Smith on May 22, 1778 at Edgartown, Massachusetts. Zachariah and Hannah had eleven children. Zachariah served as a Captain in the Revolutionary War. Zachariah and his brothers removed to Farmington, Maine about 1788 and settled where the records show that he was taxed for a house and lot in 1798. Zachariah bought a farm located upon what is now known as Norton Flats. He became one of the progressive men of this locality, and contributed generously toward building the Centre Meeting-house in 1803.... Read More |
