Dague was born on January 2, 1931 in Jackson County, Iowa, to Don U. and Eunice M. (Zickefoose) Dague. She was educated in the Washington Mills, Jackson County country school. She married Orin D. Brokaw on June 13, 1952 in Maquoketa, Iowa. He preceded her in death on April 14, 1991. Zelda farmed with her husband at Baldwin from 1956 to 1963. She then worked as a welder at Stolphers Industries in DeWitt and lastly at General Thermo in Maquoketa for three years. Zelda had served on the Monmouth City Council for many years and as the secretary-treasurer of the Monmouth Community Center during the 1990's. Zelda liked watching old westerns, going to the river boat and chauffeuring people around. She was always willing to help anyone who needed it. Zelda is survived by a brother, Glenn (Joyce) Dague of Unionville, MO; sisters-in-law, Mary Tallman of Maquoketa, IA and Mona Dague of Maquoketa, IA; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Larry and Ellen Agnitsch of Baldwin, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and 2 brothers, Willie and Blaine. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a Zelda M. Brokaw memorial fund has been established.
