Born in Pacolet, S.C. and a former resident of Cherokee County, she was the widow of the late Thomas Bryant Pettit, Jr. and daughter of the late S. Earl Loftis and Minnie Blanton Loftis. She retired from the S. C. Schools, loved gardening and the outdoors, and was a member of Ben Avon Baptist Church in Spartanburg. Surviving are two sons, Tom Pettit of Haymarket, Va. and Earl Pettit and wife, Valerie, of Fort Mill, S.C.; two grandchildren, Vanessa Harris and Bryant Pettit. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Zara Crocker and Estelle Guest and three brothers, Rev. Talmadge Loftis, Landrum Loftis and Casper Loftis. The family would like to extend special thanks to her longtime caregiver and friend, Sandra Bolin. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at Blakely Funeral Home. Funeral services will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. in the Blakely Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Richard King officiating. Interment will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to: Ben Avon Baptist Church, 2437 Wallace Avenue, Spartanburg, S.C. 29302 or Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 1886, Gaffney, S.C. 29342.
