Rev. Arthur Ward, 76, and Zelma Ward, 68, West Elm Street, LaFollette, were killed instantly in the crash while a Kentucky couple riding with them was severely injured. According to reports from the LaFollette Rescue Squad, eye witnesses and officers, the accident occurred shortly after 9 p.m. Sunday night when the car driven by Rev. Ward entered the wrong way on one of the Stinking Creek Road exit ramps and was struck by a truck hauling construction steel after the car emerged on the interstate traveling in the wrong direction. Heavy fog was reported at the time of the accident and that, along with conditions at what Sheriff Ron McClellan defined as a 'confusing, dangerous exit' are believed to have contributed to the accident.
