Son of Charles and Mary. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Zenos Zephanah Zion was born May 26, 1919 at the Copper Kettle homestead south of Vernon, CO to Charles and Mary Zion. He was the middle child of 10 children. Zenos departed this life on April 20, 2011 at the age of ninety-one. On September 17, 1938 Zenos married Bernice Lippert: They celebrated 72 years of marriage last year. The couple had four children Jack Zion, Betty Danfarth, Danny Zion and becky Lowe. As a kid, Zenos ran 7 miles of trap lines every day before school which helped him pay his way. He attended school at Vernon where he was the fastest player on the football team and also excelled at the high jump. The Zion kids enjoyed many adventures on the family farm/ranch, finding ways to have a lot of run while working hard every day, They were all raised with a positive ‘can do" attitude which helped them a to succeed. Zenos was an extremely devoted husband and father, he worked tirelessly to provide for the family which left little time for things he would have liked to have done with them. He compensated by spending many hours with his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren who reaped the benefit of his time. Zenos was an avid fisherman and took pride in teaching all the grandchildren to fish. He bought all of them their first fishing pole and was the most patient teacher In the world. He found many ways to involve the grandkids in his life, from hauling pigs to market in Denver to wheat harvest, teaching all the while. From babies to adults, Zenos was there to offer his help and support whenever it was needed. Zenos farmed in the tn-state area his entire life and was very well known for drilling grass. He was a jack of all trades and could repair anything. He had many jobs such as working at the Vernon gas station, at the blacksmith shop and doing farm work for many people. Zenos was well known for working at the Wray elevator before starting his own custom farming operation in the late 1960's. Many people recall him pulling his long line of drilling equipment thru town and all over the country. He was an accomplished carpenter and even turned his two story house into a single story. One of his favorite sayings was "Nothing is impossible, some things just take a little longer" and that saying embodied the way he lived his life. Zenos was preceded in death by his 50fl Jack, his parents, three sisters and five brothers. He is survived by his wife Bernice. Additional remaining family, the late Jack Zion's family including wife Kathryn and daughters Christi Mina and son Grant. Shelley Helling and husband Steve, daughter Nicole and husband Gory Frerichs and son Jack, Sons Jordan and Shane, and daughter Paige. Betty Danforth, son Craig Danforth and wife Deni5e, daughters Ashley and Caitlyn. Danny Zion, son Rodney Zion arid wife Joan, daughters Kaela and Rebekka, daughter Amy Kent and husband Ray, son ]ustln, daughters Meghan and Victoria. Becky Lowe and husband Roger, son Rich Lowe, daughter Jacque Hartmann and husband Joe, daughter Ma isle and son Christian. Brother Carl and wife Beverly, sister in-jaws Katherine Zion, Fern Lippert and Jean Lippert, brother in-law Robert Bryant and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 27, 2011, 10:30 a.m. at the Wray United Methodist Church in Wray, Colorado with Rev. Norman Stott officiating. Interment will be in the Grandview Cemetery in Wray, Colorado. Memorials to the Zenos Zion Memorial Fund. Spellman-Schmidt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
