The family patriarch is John "Parson Jack" Ayres, a minister, whose records show he married hundreds of couples in the county during the first half of the 19th century. His son Mathias Leake Ayres lived at Edgehill next, passing it along to his sons. Son James Nathan Ayres, the school master of the Well Water school at the end of the 19th century, inherited the home next. There are parts of four generations buried here, a total of 12 graves.
