Description	:	The Holy Cross Cemetery (also: Ten Hilligen Cruce or Buitengasthuis Cemetery) is a cemetery on the Buitengasthuisstraat in Zwolle. It is the oldest unchurched cemetery in the city. Originally a guest house (the Buitengasthuis) with a chapel and a cemetery stood on this site. Here lepers were nursed and buried. The guest house was located far outside the city to prevent contamination. The chapel largely collapsed during a violent storm on December 8, 1703, and was subsequently demolished. The oldest graves were probably never cleared and a new layer was added to the cemetery each time. The Holy Cross is surrounded by a fence and is not open to visitors.
