There is a church building in front of the cemetery that is still known as Blake Church and is considered a local landmark, although the church organization is said to have disbanded in the 1980s. Property records indicate that it was originally known as Hog Valley Missionary Baptist Church. The cemetery was in use prior to 1901 and continues to be used and maintained. A cemetery association was formed in 1903. The cemetery name is derived from the extinct Blake community served by the church and cemetery. The community was named for George Blakely Jones. Blake's father, Charles Washington Jones, applied for a post office, using his children's names. The United Postal Service chose the name of "Blake."
