Description	:	Bonita was first a mining, logging and then a rail road town starting in the 1870s or 1880s. Bonita was once a stage stop and then on the Milwaukee Road and Northern Pacific lines as they run east of Clinton along the Clark Fork river. “Bonita” is Spanish for “beautiful” and the area was reported to have been named by Mexican section hands working on the Northern Pacific tracks in the 1880's. Bonita was once a stage stop and then on the Milwaukee Road and Northern Pacific lines as they run east of Clinton along the Clark Fork river. “Bonita” is Spanish for “beautiful” and the area was reported to have been named by Mexican section hands working on the Northern Pacific tracks in the 1880's. A post office operated in Bonita from June 1886 to August 1942. Nothing remains of the town. Only a handful of residents were buried in the cemetery before it was closed. Most were moved to Missoula prior to Interstate construction. Those graves that remained were buried when part of the hillside collapsed years ago.
