Description : The Civilian War Memorial was built in memory of the 280 people who perished in the Greenock Blitz, which was the name given to the Nazi German Luftwaffe's intensive bombing of the town of Greenock, Scotland on May 6-7, 1941 during the Second World War, although earlier bombings have occurred on the same town the year before. The raids targeted the many ships and shipyards around the town but, just like the Clydebank Blitz of March 1941, the brunt of the bombing was taken by civilians.
