Description	:	The early residents of Bellefonte included several Quaker families from Chester County. The Valentines, Thomases, Millers and Irwins were the first ones. In 1832 George, Reuben, Bond and Abram Valentine and W. A. Thomas provided the land and constructed a Friends Meeting House. In 1837 it united with the Orthodox Friends and became a month meeting attached to the Dunnings Creek Quarterly Meeting in Bedford County. In July 1928 the Quaker Association set up a trust agreement for perpetual care at the Friends Burial Ground. A survey of the lines had been run in April 1920, retracing the lines of an 1889 survey. The trust fund is currently managed by the Trust Department of Midstate Bank, State College. The Friends Burial Ground is often referred to as the Friends Cemetery or the Valentine Friends Cemetery. Directions to the Cemetery: From in front of the Court House ( In Bellefonte) at the corner of Allegheny and High Streets, go west on High Street for 1 block. Turn left onto South Spring Street. Follow South Spring Street for 2/10 mile. Turn left onto South Spring Street (this is the 4th left on South Spring Street). Go up the hill on South Spring Street for about 1/10 mile. The street will make a sharp left turn around the walled cemetery. Near the end of the wall you will see grassy area to your right where you can park. [N 40 54.483' W 77.46.638']
