The cemetery was originally named Sugar Creek Cemetery, and Waller Cash was the land owner in 1858. He died April 20, 1859, and was buried on his land as the first burial. The cemetery was used by people in the area and was later named for the town of Goodrich and the Goodrich families in the area.
