Description	:	The Gurkha Cemetery is within the former Cassino Lines Military Camp (now used by the PLA and known as San Tin Barracks), in the former New Territories. Some Gurkha Regiments serving with the British Army were based in Hong Kong prior to 1997. Some Gurkha Regiments serving with the British Army were based in Hong Kong prior to 1997. Their primary roles included border patrol and managing internal conflict in Hong Kong but they were sometimes deployed overseas. This cemetery contains over 500 burials of Gurkha servicemen and their dependents. The first burials took place in 1956 and the most recent in 1996 prior to the handover of the British Colony of Hong Kong to the People's Republic of China on the 1st July 1997. Each plot has a letter and is marked with a square stone block. The plots are A, B, C, D, E, F, G, and H. The plots were previously given numbers. The cemetery is locked at all times with a combination padlock. It can be opened either by prior arrangement or by telephoning Sai Wan War Cemetery for the combination, as indicated by the sign displayed outside the barracks.
