"The surrounding estate was offered to Baltimore City by Henry W. Hook for use as a public park, as long as the land would not be developed and the family burial plot would not be disturbed. Baltimore City declined, saying it was too far from the city, which was six miles away at that time. (North Avenue and Baltimore was where Baltimore County began)."
