Description	:	The Humane Society of Highlands County was founded in the 1960's by Sally Giffard, who also established the pet cemetery. The current facility president closed it to new burials several years ago and unfortunately no longer maintains it. It is overgrown from neglect and many headstones have disappeared or were damaged during Hurricane Irma in 2017. At least one volunteer is attempting to uncover and document the gravesites of the many beloved pets buried there. Sally Giffard died in 1991.
