Samuel is said to have owned about 1000 acres in this part of the county including the parcel on which this graveyard was built. Jacob owned land across the street in Burton Township. Although Jacob was about ten years younger than Samuel, it seems likely they were brothers. Samuel is known to have eight children and Jacob had at least seven. Given the large families and the quick succession of deaths, it was natural for them to establish a family cemetery. The small piece of land that has been preserved as representing this graveyard is almost surely not the correct location. It is common knowledge that farmers raising crops on the field just west of here periodically turned up gravestones or parts of stones while plowing. These stones were piled out of the way on the east side of the field. When the stones were rediscovered at a much later date, it was assumed the cemetery was where the stones lay so that particular ground was set aside. It seems almost certain that Jacob Jackson and his wife Margaret who were born around 1790 were buried here. They both appear to have died between 1860 and 1870 and at that time probably would have been placed in the family burying ground with the rest of their kin. The cemetery apparently was never officially deeded as a separate entity. When Samuel died, his eldest son, Elijah took over the farm containing the graveyard. It was deeded over to the next son, Stephen in 1848 and passed out of the family in 1850. There is no way of knowing if any other family members or neighbors made use of the graveyard before it was abandoned and forgotten.
