Description	:	Joppa Holiness Church was organized at Cayuga,Texas in 1899 by Reverend Stone, from Cisco, Texas. Alexander Kennon, his wife Salina and several of their family were among the first members of that church, which existed until about 1907. A cemetery was started on the church grounds in September 1900 when Birtie Kennon, daughter of J. R. and Martha L. Kennon died. Other family member were later buried there, and on 29 Oct 1910, R. A. A cemetery was started on the church grounds in September 1900 when Birtie Kennon, daughter of J. R. and Martha L. Kennon died. Other family member were later buried there, and on 29 Oct 1910, R. A. Johnson gave one acre of land out of the Thomas Bristow Survey for the Joppa Burial Grounds. After oil was discovered in the area in 1934, there was an effort to remove the bodies from Joppa to another cemetery, so that the property could be explored for oil and gas. Surviving Kennon family members successfully opposed that attempt, but there were no additional burials.
