Read More	Description by Diana Druback The Lowe Cemetery is located at 1939 TR 110, in Millersburg, Mechanics Township, Holmes County, Ohio. It is a family farm cemetery with six burials in the middle of a cow and horse pasture. The farm land was originally purchased on October 28, 1816 by Conrad Lowe and his wife Margaret, who were the first settlers on the land and who are two of the people buried in the cemetery. The farm was then passed down to their son Jacob Lowe and his wife Catherine Lint and then passed onto Jacob and Catherine's daughter Leah Lowe and her husband Adam Fraelich. The farm was purchased by Noah Raber in 1948 and is currently owned by his son Jonathon Raber and his Amish family. In May of 2014, when Diana Druback and Bruce Pailler, a third great-grandson of Conrad and Margaret Lowe and John and Elizabeth Lint, first located the cemetery many of the headstones were broken and none were standing in their original positions. Unfortunately, the cemetery did not have a fence and presumably the cows and horses were responsible for the state of the cemetery. With the permission of Jonathon Raber, the current owner of the property, Bruce Pailler and Diana Druback began working with a number of professionals and one volunteer, Diann Thompson, to preserve the cemetery. Many of the marker pieces were found in a pile in the area of the cemetery. There was only one footstone base which was visible above ground. We began probing the ground around this base and found additional bases and marker pieces buried several inches below ground. We believe we located all marker pieces and bases (six headstones and six headstone bases). We also located five footstones (possibly six) and three footstone bases. All but one base was found in situ. The other was lying above ground on its side just down hill from the cemetery and it was ascertained to be Mary Lint's footstone base. We determined which gravestone fit into the slot of each base, and feel confident that we have identified the correct burial location of each of the people buried in the cemetery. During the autumn of 2014, all the grave markers and pieces were transported to Columbus Art Memorial to be professionally cleaned and reassembled with stainless steel pins and epoxy. On December 3, 2014, a wood fence was installed around the cemetery to protect it from the livestock. The makers were professionally installed by Columbus Art Memorial on September 17 and 18, 2015. A re-dedication of the Lowe Cemetery was held on October 14, 2015. If you go to the cemetery, please stop at the farmhouse and ask for permission to visit the cemetery. Someone, will take you there. A four-wheel drive vehicle works best. Please, also be sure to latch the gate when you leave to keep the livestock out of the cemetery.
