In 1968 Freeholder Frank Black, had the cemetery cleaned up and each grave in the row was numbered and a visitor would be able to check the number against the map to determine the burial site. The names of the 1,069 dead were written in ink in an old ledger in the Freeholder's office in 1968. That record is the only epitaph for these buried.
