Construction of the church began in 1836. Many rumors and legends are associated with this church and cemetery. Mostly they stem from the fact that Joseph Raber is buried in the cemetery. Construction of the church began in 1836. Many rumors and legends are associated with this church and cemetery. Mostly they stem from the fact that Joseph Raber is buried in the cemetery. Joseph was a victim of the infamous local group of murderers named the Blue Eyed Six. One member of the Blue Eyed Six was acquitted, but five were sentenced to death by hanging in April 1879. The original church building was destroyed by fire in 1961. Legend has it that the locals believed it to be evil and set it on fire. The church was rebuilt and is now known as the Moonshine United Zion Church.
