Read More	Oaklawn Cemetery ~ Alexis Fayard Family Cemetery Located at Oaklawn, Woolmarket, Harrison County, Mississippi and was established for the burial of family members of Alexis Fayard and Martha Ryan. This is a very quaint little family cemetery nestled under the cypress and old majestic oak trees with spanish moss blowing in the faint breezes off of the old Tchouticabouffa River. Located south and east of interstate 10 at the Woolmarket Exit. It would appear that David J. Fayard (son of Alexis and Martha Ryan Fayard) who died during the Civil War, has the death date of 1864 and appears to be the first burial in the cemetery according to the dates. I think this tombstone possibly was erected in his memory, but his body may not be there. He was lost during the civil war. This cemetery is not known to other's outside the community with the exception of the family of Alexis and Martha Ryan Fayard and it is not easy for people to find, but the Fayard, Stewart and Parker families have all grown up knowing about it and the upkeep of the cemetery has been done by these families. Most of us at sometime or the other have played on the property and understand its historical value of our old pioneer Fayard family and while the old cypress markers faded long ago, the families made sure that the information was not lost to the elements. During the 1980's a project spearheaded by Bill Parker and Cecil Stewart was undertaken to preserve the dates and replace the old weather worn, faded markers in order to preserve the dates for the future generations of this family if ever they want to know about their old ancestors. Both Bill Parker and Cecil Stewart has since passed on, but their work to preserve our history will always be etched in stone now and not lost to the ages.
