Description	:	Oakwood Cemetery is a large and beautifully maintained cemetery in the northwest part of Honey Grove. The earliest documented burial in Oakwood is that of James G. Gilmer (1814-1846), although likely burials were made in the cemetery before that time. Oakwood was the only cemetery in Honey Grove prior to the establishment of Cedar Hill Cemetery in the 1900s, the adjacent cemetery which is the burial ground for many of Honey Grove's black population with the earliest documented burial in 1908. Read More	Oakwood Cemetery is a large and beautifully maintained cemetery in the northwest part of Honey Grove. The earliest documented burial in Oakwood is that of James G. Oakwood was the only cemetery in Honey Grove prior to the establishment of Cedar Hill Cemetery in the 1900s, the adjacent cemetery which is the burial ground for many of Honey Grove's black population with the earliest documented burial in 1908. Land acquisitions over the years have increased the size of Oakwood. An entrance gate was erected in 1910. The Oakwood Cemetery Association, formed in 1923, maintains the historic cemetery. A memorial containing a historical marker and flagpoles is at the center of the cemetery.
