Description	:	Only Daniel and Catherine Sleighter have old formal tombstones but they are not set in a cement base. Their separate foot stones say "C. S." and "D. S."; and are made of marble. Many possible small reddish field stones were seen but only one damaged one was inscribed. It said "J. M." This is probably the son-in-law of Daniel and Catherine Sleighter, James G. McFarland. Read More	Only Daniel and Catherine Sleighter have old formal tombstones but they are not set in a cement base. Their separate foot stones say "C. S." and "D. S."; and are made of marble. Many possible small reddish field stones were seen but only one damaged one was inscribed. It said "J. M." This is probably the son-in-law of Daniel and Catherine Sleighter, James G. McFarland. It is six feet from the Sleighters and has a classical companion marker "stub" next to it that should be daughter Sophia Sleighter next to J. M. The site is located east of Rock Hill Cemetery on the Shaw Farm and always has been. The preferred entrance is clearly posted, "Private Property. No Trespassing" (without permission). Permission IS now required. Note: This site is VERY difficult to access and very remote. In about June of 2009, someone damaged the crop fields of the three farms that form a triple point right at this cemetery. I was stopped and questioned about having permission to travel on this property. Fortunately, I had stopped and gotten permission from one of the owners. I was throwing gravel down the hill on my way up but was not moving up the mountain. I switched to 4 wheel drive and crept my way up there at 2-3 MPH. I wondered how I would get down safely. I had been to this site twice before but I could not find the site initially. Parts of the old road I knew were gone. Be prepared to ask for permission at the house marked by the new GPS marker location. I thought about removing the GPS but it's too late. These owners are on high alert to any strangers. Be prepared to show ID as to just who you are, your ancestry, and what you are doing at this private property site. If you pass mustard, you will be told where the new access point and "six trees" are located. Make sure your towing is paid up. Daniel and Cathy are the grandparents of the one daughter Mary Jane McFarland buried at Providence Union Bible Church Cemetery in the back part and the gt.grandparents of George William Taylor buried at the Everett Cemetery near the cannon. The father of Daniel Sleighter is known to a few of us. I told the owner who that was, when the two came together, who the two brothers were. I couldn't remember the ship's name or the exact date off the top of my head. I knew where they settled and that Daniel migrated west to Monroe Township after leaving his "Slickter" father behind. Standing there, I pointed out the original site of the McFarland farm by a ridge AND where to verify that location and others in documents. I described the creek next to the McFarland homestead and the relationship of the ridges. This guy was a hunter and he knew I knew the location exactly. The owners were very helpful after they saw I was not a just some come lately "genealogist". I was a family history researcher and I proved it with a lot of background information. I was told this land was never owned by anyone named Drenning and had been in the Shaw family for at least four generations or more. I researched that comment and I agree. This was the land of pioneers Jeremiah and/or Moses Shaw. No Drenning owned this land before 1880. I photographed everything in this site. I examined every rock or stone outcrop. There is no real reason to go to this site. I posted the photographs. The red field markers were ruined by the weather and are essentially destroyed, or they were originally unmarked except for James G. McFarland. Using image analysis and my computer assisted expertise, I was able to update the inscriptions of Daniel and Catherine. Every punctuation mark is transcribed perfectly, semicolons and all. The original locations of Dan and Cathy are NOT marked and someone years ago moved the foot markers. It appears that a tree was planted next to them and THAT is the kiss of death to keeping a grave marker standing. Moving the foot markers to the tree base was the second kiss of death to these grave locations at the site. If you have some proof of who is buried as a red field marker, please let me know. If you know which stone is that person, great! I will post your results with the proper marker and you as the source.
