Description	:	The location of this cemetery is based off the research of Eric Stone. In a 1941 map of the division of the estate of Ida Oliver, her lands adjoin the lands of the estate of A. P. McAllister on the north. Specifically, at one corner, is an "Old cemetery." In a 1941 map of the division of the estate of Ida Oliver, her lands adjoin the lands of the estate of A. P. McAllister on the north. Specifically, at one corner, is an "Old cemetery." Since this was in 1941 (over 70 years ago), and the cemetery is labeled as "old," it is safe to say the burials were probably mid-1800s, or earlier. The aforementioned lands of A. P. McAllister was his share of the estate of his father, John A. McAllister, who was married to Florence Pope. The estate of Ida Oliver also included lands from the estate of John A. McAllister. All of this land was, in turn, land from John T. Pope, father of Florence (Pope) McAllister. Florence was the only remaining heir(ess) to John T. Pope, since her brother, Willis H. Pope, was killed during the Civil War. John and Florence McAllister were buried in Meadowbrook Cemetery, so the cemetery was not for their burials. Similarly, John T. Pope and his wife were buried in Norment Cemetery (also known as Lumberton City Cemetery). This can be confirmed in a 1940 WPA Cemetery Survey. Since the map in 1941 indicates there was an old cemetery there during that time (Nov./Dec. 1941), this means that John T. Pope and his wife were not disinterred, since, otherwise, they wouldn't have appeared in the Lumberton City Cemetery in 1940. The land that John T. Pope passed on had been the share he received from the estate of his father. He also bought the undivided interest to the estate of some of his siblings. Furthermore, John T. Pope's father had received this land from the estate of his mother. From this, we can gather that the Pope family owned this land since the early 1800s (or earlier). Therefore, it would make sense that those buried in the cemetery would be Pope members. By 1951, the cemetery is not mentioned when a deed is made describing land adjacent to it (whereas it had previously been used to describe the corner of the land: "at the southern most corner of the old Cemetery; thence along the western side of said Cemetery..." In 1961, the cemetery is mentioned ("to an iron pipe at a corner of a barn known as near cemetery; thence North 48 West 0.89 chain to an iron pipe"), but in a way to make it seem as referring to its location in accordance with previous deeds, and thus, no longer there. Notice the keywords "known as," instead of "at a corner of a barn near the cemetery."
