Description	:	This cemetery was originally the burial ground for the family of Adam and Hannah Smith, who bought the land in 1800. The cemetery and surrounding land remained in the hands of Smith descendants until 1905 when a great granddaughter sold it to a non-relative. From the 1870's forward local community folks also buried their dead in the cemetery, though it was never a commercially or church managed site. The name Ridge Cemetery came into use in the early 1880's. Both Smith family and community burials continued into the early 1920's. The property was acquired in 1971 by the city of Baltimore and became part of Leakin Park. As time passed the cemetery was forgotten and disappeared into the park under dense forest growth and fallen trees. Some gravestones were broken and many others are toppled and buried.
