The newer active cemetery, located down the hill from the church, is Calvary Cemetery. Both are maintained by St. Michael's Parish of Augusta. St. Denis Church, organized in 1818, is the second oldest Catholic Church in New England and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Rev. Dennis Ryan, an immigrant from County Kilkenny, Ireland, and the first Catholic priest ordained in New England, ministered to the large Irish community here for twenty years.
