Description : This small cemetery on Highway 136, near Jansen, Nebraska, was started with the first deaths that occured shortly our Mennonite families arrived from South Russia, July 1874. Some families started their own family plots on their farms, while others placed their loved ones in this small cemetery. The larger Jansen Cemetery west of Jansen was started in the 1900's. Martin Barkman (1821-1894) settled in Jefferson County, Nebraska in July 1874. His property was located at the present site of the town of Jansen.
