Description	:	In 1866, the community of Wingham began burying its dead in the small field at the northwest corner of Josephine and Alfred Street, using the western half of the cemetery plot for growing grain. When Wingham incorporated in 1879, Town Council acquired 10 acres of land outside of the town plot for this cemetery and moved the graves from the old burying ground to the new site. When Wingham incorporated in 1879, Town Council acquired 10 acres of land outside of the town plot for this cemetery and moved the graves from the old burying ground to the new site. In 1913, Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church purchased an acre of land to the south of Wingham Cemetery for the Catholic parishioners. In 1952, the chapel in the northwest corner of the cemetery was built to accommodate services in all faiths and to provide storage for up to 50 caskets. The cemeteries were merged in 1958, creating the Wingham Municipal Cemetery.
