He was educated in the public school and at Pantops Academy. He enlisted in the regular Army on Sept. 29, 1893, and served six years and three months as private, corporal, sergeant and first sergeant, and was twice honorably discharged with "character excellent, service honest and faithful". Read More	Highland Recorder March 27, 1953 UNITED IN LIFE UNITED IN DEATH Howard F. Alexander was born May 12, 1872, the youngest child of John W. and Nancy Sitllington Alexander. He was educated in the public school and at Pantops Academy. He enlisted in the regular Army on Sept. 29, 1893, and served six years and three months as private, corporal, sergeant and first sergeant, and was twice honorably discharged with "character excellent, service honest and faithful". Under General Orders No 15 dated Feb 13, 1900. he was cited, "For Coolness and Bravery at the assault on San Juan Hill, Cuba, on July 1, 1898." After his discharge from the army at Manila, P.I., in 1901 he served in the Office of City Assessor and Collector of Manila; then as Sectary of the Board of Tax Revision of the City of Manila until he resigned to accept a Commission as 3rd Lieut. on the Philippines Constabulary on April 23, 1904; and Lieut. Inspector on Jan 1, 1906, and 1st Lieut. & Inspector Aug. 15, 1907, until he resigned on account of his health on Dec. 3, 1907. On his return to his home he engaged in live stock, raising until he retired about 1940. He was a member of the McDowell Presbyterian Church, Highland Lodge # 110, A.F. & A.M. and of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. On September 2, 1936 he was married to Miss Addie E. Weushoff of Baltimore, Md., and they lived together at McDowell until Sunday, March 22, 1953, when they both passed on within a few hours of each other. Both of them gifted conversationalists, full of rare humor, given to hospitality, loving and sincere in their dealings with their fellowmen, their home was ever a haven where relatives and friends loved to gather. Double funeral services were conducted at the McDowell Presbyterian Church at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 24th, by Rev. G.H. Rector, assisted by Rev R.L. Nuckols and Rev. Zeigler. They were laid to rest in the cemetery nearby.
