Highland Recorder September 28, 1916 Charles Glendye Alexander, son of J W. and Nannie Sitlington Alexander, was born Feb 27, 1868, died Sept. 15, 1916. For twenty-five years Mr. Alexander was an invalid, and twenty of those years he was perfectly helpless. He was a wonderful example of meekness, patience, cheerfulness and christian submission. He impressed every one by those qualities, putting to shame many an able bodied person who was prone to grumble over the most trivial complaint. Mr. Alexander had a bright mind and was interested in everything that happened in his community, the things concerning his nation and the happenings abroad. He was known and loved by all; tho "shut-in" from many pleasures which the strong may enjoy, he was not shut out from the comfort of a savior's love, nor the sweet communion of friends and loved ones by whom he is greatly missed. In June 1903 he was married to Miss Mary Ella Hidy. Three children came to cheer their home, Mary Jean, who died in infancy, Sarah Louie, aged four, Robert Wallace, aged two years. The burial services were conducted by Rev. Lyle M. Moffet assisted by Rev. Wendell Allen after which the frail body was laid by loving hands in the little cemetery close by. Besides his wife and children he leaves three brothers, W.T. Alexander, A. A. Alexander, and H. F. Alexander, and three sisters, Mrs. Dunsmore, of Staunton, Mrs. Johnson, of Ronceverte and Mrs. S. A. Hansel, McDowell. September 15, 1916 A message from McDowell this (Friday) morning announced the death of Charles G. Alexander, whose home was just south of the village. He had been a helpless cripple nearly all his life, but the illness which terminated in death was of short duration. He is survived by a wife and child
