Military honors will be provided by the Sturgis Veterans Honor Guard. James was born Dec. 27, 1925, in Rapid City, to James Carl and Mary Eve (Eddy) Ewing. He grew up in Rapid City and graduated from Rapid City High School. He graduated from South Dakota School of Mines as a civil engineer. James then graduated from the University of Texas with a masters degree in architecture. He entered the Army Air Corp on Jan. 28, 1944, and served during WWII as a pilot. James also served during the Korean Conflict as a navigator/pilot. He received his honorable discharge on March 9, 1953. James married Billie Louise Tombaugh in San Marcos, Texas, on Dec. 31, 1945. They moved to Rapid City where James worked as an architect with his father at Ewing and Forrett and later established his own firm, James C. Ewing, architect. He designed several churches, buildings, and schools in Rapid City and the surrounding area. He was a member of the VFW, the Masonic Lodge #25, the Shriners, and the NAJA Clowns. Survivors include his three sons,daughter-in-law,one sister,eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Richard Allen Ewing; his wife, Billie Louise; an infant grandson; and two sisters, Marjorie and Mario. A memorial has been established to the Shriners Burn Center or Hospital.
