Calvert, of Kanawha county, West Virginia, December 22nd, 1865. To this union were born nine children, five of whom, together with the mother, have preceeded him to the Great Unknown. Jordon Noble was born in Monroe county, Virginia, April 29th, 1844, where he grew to young manhood, and married Martha C. Calvert, of Kanawha county, West Virginia, December 22nd, 1865. To this union were born nine children, five of whom, together with the mother, have preceeded him to the Great Unknown. He came west in 1876, establishing a home in Pottawatomie county, Kansas, February 4th of that year, where he resided thirty-three years. It was during this period he was called to mourn the loss of his devoted wife and helpmate, who passed on July 1, 1894. In 1909 he was again married to Anna May Calvert, and moved to Topeka, Kans., where he resided until September 15, 1925, when he departed upon that silent journey from which no traveler e're returns, leaving behind his wife, four children and five great-grandchildren, together with a legion of warm personal friends to mourn his departure. Of the surviving children, Mary F. Eytchison, A. M. Noble and Cora L. Robbins reside in this vicinity, while E. J. Noble and the stepson, Norman C. Noble, live near the place of his last abode. The body was laid to rest in the Neuchatel cemetery, near his old home, followed by a large concourse of his pioneer friends. The services at the grave were conducted by Onaga Lodge No. 24 I. O. O. F. of which he had been a member for more than a third of a century. While yet a mere youth he was forced to flee from his home and seek refuge amid the mountains to escape conscription into the confederate army. There he met a number of his boyhood companions who had likewise been subjected to the same treatment, and together they wended their way to the Union lines, where, weary and foot sore and hungry, they were received by Major General Rutherford B. Hayes who received them much as the biblical father welcomed the prodical son, and when the hour of his dissolution was approaching he expressed to the writer his appreciation of the kindness of his benefactor. He had been a great sufferer for the past year, yet he bore with quiet resignation the approaching end. Fate seemed to set times dial plate at four score years, yet freshly ran out a winter more 'til like a clock worn out with beating time, the wheels of weary life at last stand still.
