Fields, and Mrs. Martha Bass had charge of the flowers. Aaron Johnson was born February 11, 1864, in Osterpotland, Sweden. When 21 years of age he came with one of his brothers to America and settled near Emerson. One June 15, 1893 he was united in marriage with Augusta Swanson who preceded him in death in 1931. After their marriage they moved to Omaha where they resided until 1900, returning from there to this locality, locating on a farm which occupation he followed until 1917 when he moved from his farm at Hasting to Emerson where he was since resided. Three sons survive, Arthur H. of Valley, Nebraska, Vernon R. of Emerson, and Marion A. of Los Angeles, California. There are two grandchildren Quentin and Carol, son and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Johnson. One sister, Mrs. Annie Carlson of Red Oak, and one brother Victor of Emerson also survive. The sudden death of his wife six years ago caused a severe break in his health and he has failed steadily since, grieving constantly over the loss of his beloved companion. In his suffering and mental anguish he was ever in quest of the happy home and the vision of his dearly departed loved one so deeply enshrined in his memory. During his illness of the past five years he has been cared for by his son Vernon and wife. Death came in blessed deliverance to end his suffering on Thursday evening, October 28, at the age of 73 years, eight months, and 17 days. Mr. Johnson was formerly a member of the Swedish Lutheran Church but for many years has been affiliated with the Methodist Episcopal church of Emerson. The following pallbearers were all nephews; Elmer Carlson, Clarence Carlson, Walter Calson, Carl Carlson, Henry and Edwin Johnson. Those from a distance attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Daggerman, Mr. and Mrs. Chester Daggerman, Mrs. Phil McCardle and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Rosewall of Omaha; Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Carlson, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Johnson and Mr. and Mrs. Caleb Freed of Essex; Mrs. H. A. Montgomery, Mr. and Mrs. O. P. Anderson and Francis of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Art Johnson and Mrs. Geo. Pflug of Valley, Nebraska,; Mr. and Mrs. Russell Harville, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Carlson, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Carlson, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Carlson and Mrs. Annie Carlson of Red Oak, Iowa. M. A.
