Description	:	The 1925 Robinson Genealogy claims that Ens. Thomas Robinson married 2) the widow Abigail Dimock, who died 9 November 1790 in the 77th year of her age. This infers she was born between November 1713 and November 1714. At the Scotland Society Church, then in Windham, is the following entry: • Ensign Thomas Robinson and widow Abigail Dimick, m. Feb. 8, 1770, by Rev. Ebenezer Devotion. There are no known children by this marriage. More importantly, after years of research the memorialist has deciphered who Abigail was, her parentage and identity of her former husband. The various published versions of the Dimock family, certainly those who migrated during the first half of the 1700s from greater Barnstable, Mass. to Conn., are fraught with problems [in particular, see Connecticut Nutmegger, 1988 (21:744)]. This includes descendants joined to the wrong set of parents as well as claimed children who have no factual record of existence. The following is one of the problem Dimock families that can only be reconciled by following all of the subsequent descendants to the late 1800s. Abigail Tobey, the 7th child and 6th dau. of Jonathan Tobey and Remember Perry, b. of record May 28, 1713 in Sandwich, Mass. [Sand. VRs.] She d. Nov. 9, 1790 in that part of the Town of Windham now the Town of Scotland, Conn. On Oct. 19, 1731 in Sandwich, Mass. (by Rev. Benj. Fessenden), Abigail m. Ensign Dimock, s. of Joseph,3 (Dea. Shubael,2 Elder Thos.,1) and Lydia,4 Fuller (Dr. John,3 Dr. Matthew,2 Edward,1 of the Mayflower), b. of record Mar. 28, 1709 in Barnstable, Mass. They had three known children recorded at Barnstable: • i. Thomas Dimock, b. Oct. 29, 1732; no further definitive record has been found whether he did or did not have a family, or whether the Dimick Genealogy assigned Thomas to the wrong set of parents. • ii. Mehitable Dimmock, b. Apr. 12, 1735, d. Jan. 20, 1795 at Windham, Conn. (g.s.); m. May 24, 1759 at the Scotland Soc. Ch. in Windham, Conn., David Luce, Jr., s. of David Luce and Elizabeth Pease, b. June 26, 1719 in Tisbury, Mass. He d. Aug. 2, 1788 in Windham (g.s.) Eight children of the family at Windham. • iii. Joseph Dimock, b. July 12, 1740, d. July 4, 1815 in Norwich, in that part in 1855 that became the separate Town of Huntington, Mass. (g.s.); m. at an unknown place and date prior to 1766, Elizabeth Kimball, youngest child of Richard Kimball and Sarah Bursley, b. of record July 4, 1815 in Norwich, Conn. She d. Oct. 22, 1836 in present-day Huntington, Mass. (g.s.) Nine named children of the family.[1] What happened to Ensign Dimock is unknown. No record can be found regarding him after the birth of son Joseph and no speculation regarding his fate has been offered in print in the last 100 years.
